This postcard shows the Statue of Cúchulainn by Oliver Sheppard RHA 1865 - 1941. Mortally wounded, Cúchulainn, legendary warrior of Irish mythology, tied himself to a trer so that he night continue to face his enemies. Sheppard's bronze statue dates from 1911 bit it was later adopted as a memorial to the 1916 Rising and placed in the GPO. This postcard is part of a set of six postcards which are now available in our Philatelic Shop in the GPO and can be ordered through the Philatelic Bureau.
