On September 15, 2011, An Post issued a stamp to commemorate the Solheim Cup women's golf competition being played in Ireland.

The Solheim Cup is being staged at Killeen Castle, County Meath, from September 19–25. It is the highest profile international golf event for women and is the largest women's sporting event ever to come to Ireland. The format of the competition, which was founded in 1990 by Karsten Solheim, mirrors that of the Ryder Cup and is competed for by 24 leading lady professionals from Europe and the US. There is no prize money, but the players taking part have their expenses paid.

Killeen Castle dates back to the 12th century and had become derelict, but after a decade of restoration work, was restored to its former glory, and now features a championship golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus.
