On 19 January, 2012, An Post issued its ever popular Wedding stamp, for the sixth The stamp is especially designed for use on wedding stationery and it is sure to enhance the sense of occasion for both the sender and the recipient. Ireland's wedding market remains substantial, worth up to €800 million a year. Consumers' spending on weddings has widespread economic benefits, especially to local communities and traders around the country. In recent years, although a certain amount of economising has been the order of the day, the average spend on a wedding is still considerable, around €25,000. For couples getting married, it is often said to be the greatest day of their lives, so the sense of occasion remains important and little expense is spared to ensure that all the details of the wedding day are exactly perfect. The stamp and first day cover design were by Steve Simpson. The design was based on a photograph by Harry Weir, showing a newly married couple in a loving embrace, with a classic style wedding car in the background.
